A Computed Tomographic Study of Umbilical Anatomy: The Relationship between Umbilical Thickness and Diameter International Journal of Morphology
Kim,Maru; Oh,Seong-Taek.
Laparoscopic surgeries were first introduced in the 1980s. More recently, similar techniques such as natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery and other advanced transumbilical surgeries have been developed. With all of these surgical advances, basic information about the umbilicus is lacking. This study evaluated the relationship between umbilical diameter and thickness, as well as the underlying vessels, in order to develop a simple means of assessing umbilical anatomy. We retroactively reviewed 842 computed tomography images that included the umbilicus. Umbilical thickness, diameter, type of vessel located beneath the umbilicus, depth to the vessel, and other parameters were measured. Age and sex were noted, and their relationship was analyzed as...

Clinical use of laparoscopy in horses MV&Z
Silva, Luís Cláudio Lopes Correia da; Ferreira, Márcio Augusto; Baccarin, Raquel Yvonne Arantes; Fernandes, Wilson Roberto.
Although laparoscopic techniques have been known and used in horses since 1970, their clinical use has improved only during the last years. Laparoscopy is frequently indicated in cases of peritonitis, intestinal lesions, duodenojejunitis, adhesions, cryptorchidism, internal organ biopsy and diagnosis or abdominal abscesses and tumors. Adequate knowledge about the technique, laparoscopic anatomy and clinical applications wil1 allow laparoscopy to become a routine diagnostic method in equine medicine.

Laparoscopic-assisted prepubic urethrostomy: experimental model in rabbit Ciência Rural
Queiroga,Luciana Branquinho; Lopes,Lucila Maria Almeida; Gianotti,Giordano Cabral; Scherer,Simone; Alievi,Marcelo Meller; Beck,Carlos Afonso de Castro.
ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to develop a laparoscopic-assisted prepubic urethorstomy (PPU) technique using rabbits as an experimental model. Six male New Zealand rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) over six months old and weighing between 3 and 4kg (3.5kg ± 0.4) were used in this study. The animals underwent laparoscopic dissection of the pelvic urethra, which was then exposed for the laparoscopic-assisted urethrostomy procedure. The proposed model for training of laparoscopic-assisted PPU in rabbits was considered effective and feasible. It proved to be a simple technique even for surgeons under basic endosurgery skills training, with possibilities of employing the technique for the treatment of cats with loss of function of the distal urethra.

Chung,Beom Sun; Kwon,Koojoo; Shin,Byeong-Seok; Chung,Min Suk.
Diagnosing and treating stomach diseases requires as many of the related anatomy details as possible. The objective of this study based on the sectioned images of cadaver was to offer interested clinicians anatomical knowledge about the stomach and its neighbors from the new viewpoint. For the raw data, sectioned images of a male cadaver without stomach pathology were used. By manual segmentation and automatic interpolation, a high-quality volume model of the stomach was reconstructed. The model was continuously peeled and piled to synthetically reveal the inside and outside of the stomach. The anterior, posterior, right, and left views of the models were compared with a chosen sectioned image. The numerous stomach images were then put into user-friendly...

Sex determination in the Giant fish of Amazon Basin, Arapaima gigas (Osteoglossiformes, Arapaimatidae), using laparoscopy Acta Amazonica
Carreiro,Carlos Riedel Porto; Furtado-Neto,Manuel Antônio de Andrade; Mesquita,Pedro Eymard Campos; Bezerra,Tácito Araújo.
The Giant of Amazon basin, pirarucu, Arapaima gigas, is the largest scaled freshwater fish in the world. pirarucu cultivation has recently started, driven by the decline in natural populations and high market value. Currently, there are no reliable methods for sexual differentiation in this species other than direct examination of gonads, which requires dissection of specimens. A non-lethal and less invasive method for sexual identification is highly desirable in order to properly group broodstock for mating and offspring production. We utilized laparoscopic examination in anesthetized pirarucu to differentiate between male and female individuals. This method allowed for the observation and differentiation of the reproductive organs within an individual....

Single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILSTM) using an umbilical hernial approach for cryptorchidectomy of a degenerated testis in a dog Ciência Rural
Tiosso,Caio de Faria; Voorwald,Fabiana Azevedo; Brun,Maurício Veloso; Nakaghi,Luciana Cristina Padilha; Crivelaro,Roberta Martins; Apparicio,Maricy; Vicente,Wilter Ricardo Russiano.
ABSTRACT: SILSTM via an umbilical hernia opening was used in the correction of an abdominal cryptorchidism in a dog. The SILSTMport was inserted through a 2.5 cm skin incision on the umbilical hernia and pneumoperitoneum was established with CO2. A 10mm telescope, 5mm laparoscopic Babcock clamp, and a clamp with combined cutting and coagulation features were used for the dissection and removal of the testicle through the SILSTM port. The treatment proved to be effective, easy, and quick to perform. However, the lack of triangulation between clamps and telescope limited the movement of the instruments, making it more laborious than a multiple-trocar approach. It can be concluded that the use of a SILSTM port through a pre-existing opening of the abdominal...
